Breezes Runaway Bay has its own 18-hole golf course and green fees are part of the all-inclusive rate. While the course starts out on fairly level ground, it segues into some hilly challenges often with wonderful views of the Caribbean. Caddies are mandatory here, but the cost is far less than caddies at resorts in Hawaii and the western U.S.

I played with Stacy Solomon who has a terrific golf blog (Golf for Beginners) and our caddy Raymond. He was a fund of knowledge, ranging from local customs and Jamaican history to the trees and plants we passed by (or occasionally hit with a golf ball). Stopping at one tree, he hacked open a large almond, so we could sample the taste of a truly fresh nut hidden in the inner core. (So different than what you buy in a store.) His golf tips were the equivalent of taking a playing lesson with a pro.

The resort also has four tennis hard courts lit for night play. There's a fitness and yoga studio. Free golf and tennis clinics are arranged almost daily.
