One route is via listings organized by individual water sports or water-related activities. Choices include such adventurous water sports as: scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing, paddleboarding, surfing, kneeboarding, parasailing whitewater, wakeboarding and rafting. The site also has business listings for boat charters, sailing schools, and boat, kayak, and jet rentals and more. The alternative route has business listings categorized by city and state.
WaterplayUSA.com is easy to use
I tested the site by seeking out a scuba diving operation in Key West, Florida. I started by clicking on scuba diving (1084 choices) on the water sports list. When a bing map of the U.S. appeared, I kept clicking to zoom into the local level. when I reached Key West the names and contacts for local scuba diving operators appeared. Knowing I might decide to go kayaking, too, I clicked kayaking on the water sports list and a number of business offering kayaking rentals popped up.The other approach is to simply put a state and city or zip code in the boxes at the top of the page. I put in Denver, Colorado, then clicked on 'find water sports'. Several dive shops and business offering kayak rentals and sales popped up. If you know the region you want to visit, or just want to know what's available close to home, this is the faster approach.
The lists that pop up below the map include business names, addresses and phone numbers, but do not include Web site info (if the business has a site). Any business can register for free. If a balloon pops up on the map with a link to its Web site, that business has paid for a direct link to its site.
If you want to send a copy of the page to a friend, look for the 'link to this page' line at the bottom of the map. Click on it and you get a url permalink that you can email to friends.
