What’s Special at Sheraton Steamboat Resort

The Sheraton Steamboat Resort’s metamorphosis was completed this winter, turning a shabby, ageing hotel with a slopeside location into a trendy lodging choice. From the well-designed lobby and bar, where guests can gather in groups or enjoy intimate conversations, to the completely re-designed guestrooms, the redo has successfully mixed a contemporary ambiance with a touch of the western style that many visitors to Steamboat seem to expect. The property sits in a prime location, literally steps from the gondola that takes skiers up to Steamboat’s slopes.

Guestrooms at Sheraton Steamboat Resort

The guestrooms remain small but are carefully designed, with a restful yet colorful decor melding dark woods, and gentle tones of persimmon. Expect Sheraton’s triple-sheeted duvet-covered Sleeper II beds, set against a white leather wall. The rooms have a leather chair and ottoman, where you can relax tired feet, The flat-screen TV on the wall is near the desk. A divider blocks a small area with a sleek sink from the main room and the actual bathroom with tub/shower and toilet. Rooms are air-conditioned and have coffee makers.

A brand new section has been added to the properties with very comfortable villas that have nicely-sized living rooms. These are part of the Starwood Vacation Ownership timeshare concept, but some are available for rental.

Dining at Sheraton Steamboat Resort

The Sevens Restaurant has an eclectic mix of continental and western fare, thanks to the sophisticated touch of executive chef John Demel. We loved the rack of wild boar and the elk-sirloin chili. Ask for the fried P&J for dessert. The 3 Saddles Bar and Grill just off the lobby has a wonderful specialty drink men - try the Whiteout Chocolate Martini- and comfort food, such as bison meatloaf and pulled port Cuban sandwiches. It’s equally popular with the apres-ski crowd and visitors who like to have light, informal dinners.

Activities and Amenities at Sheraton Steamboat Resort

In the winter, just head downstairs to the ski shop, pick up your skis or snowboard and take the one-minute walk to the gondola opening up Steamboat’s celebrated champagne powder. In the summertime, you can book a tee time on the Sheraton Steamboat Resort’s Rolling Stone Ranch Golf Club’s 18-hole course.

Just off the lobby, there’s a quiet area with computers guests can use to check their email or surf the Web. Bring your own computer to the wireless area by the fireplace, and snack on an appetizers, with a drink or coffee from 3 Saddles. The hotel also has wireless in the rooms.

The hotel has a health club, a kids program and an outdoor pool open summer and winter.

The hotel is smoke free.

If you’re bringing your dog, ask for a Sheraton Dog Bed.

Good to Know About Sheraton Steamboat Resort

If you are a Starwood Preferred Guest (and joining is free) be sure to give your number when making a reservation. You may find yourself on a higher floor and few extra amenities in your room.

If you want to exercise in your room, call the concierge and ask for the “Gym in a Bag,” which contains everything you need for a private workout. If you’re feeling sore afterward, book a hot-stone massage at The Rocky Mountain Day Spa, just outside the hotel’s front door.

Steamboat has two unique experiences, which can be booked through the concierges or direct. Kids play with toy bulldozers and excavators in a sandbox but at Dig This you get to use real bulldozers and excavators building roads, digging ditches and moving rocks, in the first heavy equipment arena in the United States. See how powerful I felt driving a CAT312 Track Excavator and moving one-ton rocks at Dig This. At the Bridgestone Winter Driving School you can have a different kind of fun, improving your driving skills on an icy track.
