Utah's The Canyons Boasts Prime Inbound Extreme Skiing Adventures

By Lois Friedland, About.com

Here’s what Salt Lake City resident Josh Madsen, a member of The Canyons Freeride Team who favors telemark skiing, says about The Canyons, a 30-minute drive from downtown. "The Canyons boasts 3,700 skiable acres including tons of great inbound lines that are steep, deep, and technical."

"Some local favorites include the rocky negotiations of the Red Pine Chutes and other powder lines with intermittent cliff drops, located off the Ninety-Nine Ninety lift. It doesn’t end there either! The Fantasy Ridge area has similar expert terrain that is sure to keep your eyeballs glued to sick lines of steep tree descents and rocks to huck off.

Yet More Extreme Terrain

"Don’t feel like rocks and tech is your jam? No worries…just head across to the other side of the mountain to the Super Condor Express Lift where a short boot pack will take you to the open turns of Murdock’s Bowl and the powder steeps that this area has to offer."

The list continues. "The Abyss off Peak 5, Deschutes off of Tombstone, Condor woods, and so many other areas that you’ll just have to poke around and find on your own. The possibilities are endless; just don’t tell any of the locals I told you where to go."

Visit The Canyons to learn more about the resort and the backcountry-style inbounds extreme terrain.
