Extreme Skiers Challenge Mt. Everest’s Lhotse Face Successfully

“Skiing the Lhotse Face was a large part of what we came here for.” said extreme skier Kit DesLauriers, in her dispatch describing how they skied down the bullet-proof snow on the Lhotse face while descending from the summit of Mt. Everest. You can read her dispatch describing the harrowing experience she, her husband Rob and Jimmy Chin had while fulfilling their dream of skiing down the world's highest mountain.

With this ski descent, Kit DesLauriers becomes the first person in the world to ski down from all of the “Seven Summits,” a nickname used by mountaineers who want to climb the highest mountains on each continent. The group was part of Berg Adventures International’s fall 2006 expedition, which climbed the highest mountain in the world. You can read more about the expedition, and how they skied the Lhotse face in their summit Himalayan gear, plus view some of the stunning pictures by Jimmy Chin on the Everest Expedition 2006 pages on the BAI Website.

Berg Adventurers International, based in Canmore, Alberta, Canada, offers an outstanding variety of mountaineering trips that combine climbing with cultural tourism. The company also runs mountaineering schools for beginners to climbers who are going to tackle the seven summits.

Types of Trips

The company offers a variety of Mt. Everest treks and expeditions, including Kumbu & Mt. Everest Base Camp treks, and a fall 2007 Mt. Everest Expedition on the South Col Route.
