Adrenaline junkies who love speed events can jump on the fast track at the annual winter Festival of Speed at Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada. The festival is centered around the Western Canadian Ice Racing Championships. This year, the festival is Feb. 28-March 1, 2009.

The races feature four types of motorsports on the icy racing circuit. You can watch Chevettes and other cars, ATV racing, and motorbikes and sidecars all fly perilously around the slippery oval. Snowmobiles will try and break the sound barrier, covering 660-foot-long racing courses in less than four seconds during a drag race.

During the weekend, there's also an indoor carnival for kids, and a cabane a sucre for the entire family.

To see a video of the ice races and details about visiting during the festival click on Winter Festival of Speed. To learn more about visiting this region, where you can go snowmobiling, ice fishing, take dog sled rides and enjoy other outdoor adventures, visit Lac La BicheRegion.
