Definition: Burning Man is an annual event when up to 48,000 people gather in Nevada's Black Rock desert to create art and express their individuality. People who have gone to Burning Man gatherings claim you need to attend to truly understand.

On the Burning Man website, there's a description: "Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever." The participants camp out in a remote desert playa to experience this unique counter-culture celebration of art and personal expression.

Burning Man has a different art theme each year

Each year a different art theme is chosen and participants are encouraged to become involved, whether they create an art installation, design their campsite around the theme, or go in other creative directions, such as novel costumes. The 2009 art theme, for example, is "Evolution."
