Lonely Planet is a key source of travel books for travelers who want to explore new countries and especially for vacationers who are looking for mid-range or modest lodging. Selections include guides for regions, countries and cities worldwide; language guides; digital guides; audio guides; and travel books filled with advice, photography and personal travel stories.

If you want spectacular framed prints and wall murals of places you'd traveled to, or wish you could travel to, check out the Lonely Planet images available on AllPosters.com. The collection of framed prints and wall murals of beautiful scenery and historic landmarks stretches around the globe. Choices for adventure themes range from surfing on secret islands and hiking over sand dunes to biking in Vietnam.

Travel guides for adventurous and active travelers

Several of the travel books are geared for active and adventurous travelers. These activities guides include walking and trekking trips in such locales as Ireland, Patagonia and Australia. The national parks guides stretch from the red-rock spires in Bryce and Zion canyons in Utah to the needle-tipped Rockies in Jasper and Banff up in Canada. The scuba and snorkeling guides take you onto the Great Barrier Reef, or the water around the Caribbean and the Hawaiian islands.

How to Purchase Just the Chapters You Want

One nice feature is the ability to just purchase one or more chapters of many of the guidebooks and print your choice of chapters or download them to your computer or PDA. If you want to download one or more chapters from a specific guidebook, visit Pick and Mix Chapters, scroll down to "$4.95 digital chapters" then navigate to the country you plan to visit.

Lonely Planet travel books started on a kitchen table

Lonely Planet's first guidebook was written at a kitchen table by company co-founders Tony and Maureen Wheeler, offering travel advice from their honeymoon overland journey through Europe and Asia. Since then, Lonely Planet has published dozens of travel books ranging from hiking in Britain and diving in Bonaire, to Shoestring Guides for Central America and Europe. In 2007 BBC Worldwide purchased 75% of this now multi-million dollar company from its co-founders.
