The family-owned company was formed 18 years ago after one of the members crashed while inline skating aggressively. She created padded pants to protect herself during any future falls. Today, Crash Pads offers a wide range of tops and bottoms for skiing and snowboarding (including parks and half-pipes), mountain biking, motorcycling, horseback riding and many other sports. While CrashPads offers a variety of "off-the-rack" choices designed to help protect bodies playing specific sports, the company will also custom-design Crash Pad clothing.
How Are Crash Pad Tops and Bottoms Made?
The Crash Pad garments, which include padded shorts, padded pants, and padded tops, are made with non-restrictive designs, so the wearer has freedom of movement. The garments are made with technical moisture management fabrics, and have abrasion and impact resistant padding. The protective 1/2 inch of high-density padding pads in the clothing are made of high-density closed cell polyethylene foam. Each pad is flame bonded with fabric and then thermal formed to provide flexibility.According to company owners, Sidnie Doyle and Sheila Lehner-Brewer, the designs have been created to allow athletes great freedom of movement, while keeping the user well padded. Padding locations are determined by the type of sport, whether it's biking, soccer, hockey, riding in half-pipes or cliff jumping, as examples. The Crash Pad garments are made in the U.S.
