Where to find great deals and bargains for adventure travel

If you're flexible about travel dates, auction sites, such as LuxuryLink.com, SkyAuction.com and eBay.com have discounted adventure travel trips, plus bargain-priced packages at hotels, which include adventurous experiences worldwide. My husband and I had the winning bid on LuxuryLink.com for ten nights in suites at Orient Express Hotels in Peru, including a car and driver to visit Colca Canyon (twice the depth of the Grand Canyon)and lodging at an eco-lodge on the rim. The price we paid for the package was a fraction of the cost of similar packages from high-end tour operators offering trips that included lodging in deluxe rooms at the same properties and similar experiences.

Sites, such as SkyAuction.com and Luxury Link, have great deals. When this was written, for example, Luxury Link had a package letting you escape to a chalet in the Canadian Rockies for guided hikes or canoeing. Another package included a stay at remote lodge in New Zealand plus eco-tours and horseback rides. Keep in mind as you bid that you can not lock in specific dates. When you win the auction, you must contact the tour company or property to request dates. ( Luxury Link notes you can inquire about room availability on your preferred dates by calling the hotel and saying you saw a “special” on the Internet, but those dates might be full when you actually try to book.)
