The idea isn't new, but Pack For a Purpose, a Web site that links travelers with lodges and resorts around the globe that support foundations in their local communities, makes it easy. On the site, travelers can learn which items that are specifically needed by various local foundations. Did you know that by adding just five pounds to your luggage, you can bring five deflated soccer balls with an inflation device; or 400 pencils; or a stethoscope, a blood pressure cuff and 500 band-aids.
To quote the site's founders' philosophy: "We believe people fortunate enough to travel to other countries often wish they could make meaningful contributions to help meet the needs of the places they visit. Such contributions are one way of expressing appreciation for the experiences and hospitality they enjoyed in other lands."
Why Pack For a Purpose?
Rebecca Rothney, chairperson of Pack For A Purpose explains, "It's startling to see just how little some schools and clinics have to work with. I believe we can all find a little space in our luggage for a bag of supplies. If enough people make small contributions, we have the potential to make an enormous positive impact."How to Pack Your Suitcase For a Purpose
