Adventure Race on Ice - Red Bull Crashed Ice Skates Into Quebec City

If you weren't a skilled enough skater and crazy enough to participate in the Red Bull Crashed Ice adventure race that’s literally carved into Quebec City, you can still enjoy the rush. In January 2008, wanna-be racers had to put their names into the lottery registration for Red Bull's combo hockey, bordercross and downhill race, on an ice flow that was created in Vieux Quebec. Plans for a race in early 2010 are in the works.

The race took place on a 550-meter ice-track that not only snaked its way through an urban environment, but also included a series of high-speed hairpin turns, big-air jumps, drop-offs, and gaps. Consecutive heats narrowed the field down to the top 16 men qualifiers and the final four in the womens division. Total purse prize shared was $10,000 and unlimited bragging rights.
