Primal Quest Adventure Travel Race Tests Endurance

World-class athletes tested during grueling Primal Quest adventure race

By , About.com Guide

Arguably one of the ultimate adventure travel races, the last grueling Primal Quest was held in South Dakota's Badlands in 2009. Billed as an ecologically aware wilderness Expedition Adventure Race, Primal Quest is tackled by teams of four willing to fight their ways through a series of challenges.

Nicknamed "The Super Bowl of Adventure Racing, during the 10-day race teams will paddle, run, mountain bike and navigate their way non-stop across more than 500 miles of rugged landscape and tackle more than 100,000 feet of vertical gain. The winning team walks (crawls) away with $25,000 and a free pass to next year's race. You'll be able to track your favorite teams through real-time GPS tracking and custom leader board technology provided by SPOT, makers of the world's first satellite messenger, which allows for viewing on SPOT enhanced Google Maps™.

This race wasn't held in 2010, but the latest word is that arrangements are underway to hold a race later in 2011. Check the web site for the latest info.To learn more about the race visit Primal Quest
