Tracks: About.com's Train Travel Bazaar
Tuesday June 23, 2009
Let About.com's travel guides be your conductors on these trains that will whisk you away to new destinations. Would you like to travel on the posh Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, as spies and courtesans did many years ago? Or, would you like to gaze up at the Alps as the Swiss trains, which are always on time, hurry you to high-alpine villages. On many of these trains, the journey is a destination in itself.
Hop Aboard.
We took the train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, one of the new 7 Wonders of the World, and couldn't stop poking each other to look out the windows as we chugged through narrow river gorges and past terraces built by the Incas where locals are still farming. At one stop, hikers got off to trek along the Inca Trail. To learn more about this ride and the ancient Inca city in Peru click on train to Machu Picchu.
