Where is Africa's Cape of Good Hope?

Most southwestern point in Africa Love it when readers respond. Within the last few days I’ve had two readers comment on my “I Discovered Why the Tip of South Africa Was Called the Cape of Storms” blog.

In my enthusiasm for writing about my experience, I called the Cape of Good Hope the “tip” of South Africa. They both pointed out, accurately, that Cape Aghulas, about 90 miles to the southwest, is the actual southern tip. After visiting the lighthouse at Cape Point I went to the spot by the ocean where there's a sign indicating I was standing at the most southwestern point of the African continent, as you can see in the image above.

They also said I was not actually in Table Mountain National Park. I disagree, based on information that I’ve taken directly from the Table Mountain National Park website.

Here it is: “Situated at the south-western tip of Africa, the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) encompasses the incredibly scenic Table Mountain Chain stretching from Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south and the seas and coastline of the peninsula. The narrow finger of land with its beautiful valleys, bays and beaches is surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the warmer waters of False Bay and has within its boundaries two world-renowned landmarks - majestic Table Mountain and the legendary Cape of Good Hope.” Here’s a link to the Table Mountain National Park website, for anyone who wants to learn more.
