Scaling the World's Deepest Canyon for Treasure
Thursday October 23, 2008
Steamboat, Colorado, adventurer Eugene Buchanan, the lone kayaker on an expedition sanctioned by the New York-based Explorer's Club and sponsored by the Warshaw Stock Exchange, had to deal with 40-degree water, 30-foot waterfalls about every quarter mile and rappels up to 60-feet, while exploring Colca Canyon. The team of eight descending into this chasm, twice the depth of the Grand Canyon, ran into enough adventures that the expedition began to resemble an Indiana Jones movie. Denver Post writer Scott Willoughby weaves a good tale about hitting "the adventure jackpot on Buchanan's recent journey to what some consider the world's deepest ditch -
Peru's Colca Canyon." You'll find it by clicking on Going to great depths.
